In her research, Brené Brown found that shame thrives in hiddenness and secrecy, and that speaking the things you’re ashamed of out loud can be powerfully healing. But for many of us, speaking those things out loud is the most terrifying thing we could imagine. What if people reject me? What if I lose all my friends and family? What if I’m just too much?
Online counselling is a safe space to process these innermost fears and doubts in a safe, confidential environment where you will be listened to and accepted just as you are. You can choose whether you have your camera on or off or whether we do the session by video call or by email.
I am warm, gentle and caring, and I don’t judge you. My clients have told me that they like sessions with me because I let them get things off their chest without telling them what to focus on.
“Shame diminishes in the presence of acceptance”
I offer person-centred counselling which is where you are seen as the expert on yourself, the sessions are directed by you and your needs are at the centre. Find out more about person-centred counselling.
I believe that person-centred counselling is a good approach to shame and low self-esteem because it validates your feelings and experience, empowers you to make decisions for yourself and is completely non-judgemental and accepting.
I am also a qualified yoga teacher, and can incorporate gentle yoga and meditations into the sessions at your request. This is entirely optional.
When you contact me, I will arrange an initial session of 20 minutes free of charge. This is so that we can get to know each other and it’s an opportunity for you to ask questions. I will also need to ask you questions to assess your suitability for counselling and whether I am a good fit for you or whether you need another form of support.
